The Acquisition

It was a dark and stormy night. The sky was weeping like one heart-broken and devastated. Flashes of lightning illuminated her troubled crown. Amidst the confusion of the drops of water descending at a steady pace and the chaotic automobiles prevalent on the roads, a mysterious stranger stepped out of the shadows with firm determination in her eyes.

Today was THE DAY. She was finally going to get that for which she had been waiting patiently for years. She could envision herself with the said acquisition and the countless hours of joy that awaited her. She hastened towards her destination.

As she passed dark alleys and narrow lanes, never giving a second look to any living being she encountered, she found herself standing before a respectable old establishment. Sadly, her despairing eyes found the doors to be closed! However, resolution demanded that she investigate, and so she did and found, to her unbounded joy, a narrow opening by means of which she might enter.

The enigmatic stranger stepped inside and spoke a few quiet words to the owner, and was handed a black oddly-shaped package. Within the next few minutes, and with a barely perceptible smile on her face, she walked out into the rain once again. She had got what she had been looking for. With brisk steps she travelled back to her starting site and melded into the shadows once again.

In case you're wondering what I'm going on about, let me clarify a few things for you. I finally got my guitar yesterday on the 26th of April, 2007.

*Nodding at the looks of dawning comprehension* Yes, this is about me, going and buying my guitar (with a bit of imaginative license, of course).

Let this be a day (or rather, a night) to remember!
This is basically a parody on the 'It was a dark and stormy night...' types.

Entreaty to the Elements

Date: 25.04.2007
Time: 10:28 p.m.

O fading light, leave me alone!
The muted hues with which you illuminate
Cast blanched impressions deep within
Nothing serves to inspire
Naught but dull gloom pales my vision
And I take to the glass once again.

O tearful reflection, do not stare back!
Those crimson tears that exude and descend
From broken skin — a reflection of a broken being
The battle rages on within
The scars remain, repeating ever so steadily
Across pale skin, now traversed with scarlet stripes.

O darkness, stay, forevermore!
Lift not for light, my weakness
Engulf me in your shadows
Protect me from the glare of civilised stares
Bleeding, as I lie on the spot
Hear this plea of mine — as my sorrows fall drop by drop.

O life once vibrant, gushing out ...
Flow into a mighty river
Drain me of my crimson tears
Cure my lips of this bitter bile
Dull my senses, numb my mind
As I lie blank, motionless and still.

End: 10:48 p.m.

5 Things I would do if I could fly...

  1. I would fly to the Himalayas and take photographs of the mountains in their breathtaking splendour.
  2. I would use my flying skills to suddenly shoot up into the air so as to avoid dull and uninteresting conversation with people I have no interest in speaking to the moment I see them approaching me.
  3. I would fly around the city carrying a water-gun and squirt coloured water and/or muddy slush at perpetrators of crime. [Yes, I am weird and have a slightly comic-book inspired imagination ... get used to it if you persist in reading my blog]
  4. I would go bungee-jumping without a cord, free-fall and get a kick out of it, while pulling up at the last moment (and one day, perhaps, not at all).
  5. I would take to the skies and witness the beauty of the city, the trees of many a hue, the clouds and the dew, at many an hour and many an angle and simply, breathe ...

'Muse'-ical Melody

Date: 15.04.2007
Time: 10:55 p.m.

There is music swirling inside my head — with a swish of its skirt, the fabric caresses my mind with its momentary touch. It swells within my being and the ebb and flow of this musical tide is the source of much joy.

It has been a while since I have felt this way. The satisfaction of an artistic creation fashioned as imagined is immense and the magical melody seems to cast a firm imprint on my soul. I rise and soar and spread my wings as I witness the miracle of this healing elixir.

The music stays behind long after the song ends, playing itself over and over again within the grey folds. Graceful movements of the notes, the soft whispers ushering in the more dominant refrains, the vibrant rush of euphoric sound… I can feel it all. The strange part is that all these tunes never cease to strike an individual chord in spite of the mangled interpretation by my brain. Not once does a song lose its identity.

I can feel the sense of gladness coursing through my veins, imbibing the radiant spirit of the harmony heard by my ears. I feel a sweeping sense of ecstasy as I recall the seamless flow of the melody played. I find myself in absolute bliss — there is not a care that I could care for at the moment!

The lyrics move fingers of understanding — narrow tendrils of thought of one person connecting with another’s. It is as though the hearts of every sentient creature on earth are beating together, in phase, and giving rise to a form of empathy that bridges gulfs and triumphs over the impossible. Such is this feeling that I forget all my worries and troubling thoughts and settle into a mood of ease and contentment.

The unlimited expanse of human expression lies before my eyes and ears. I succumb to its tempting call and am lured away to serenity. For a few moments, I find happiness, and for now, it is enough.

The Mailbox

There is nothing for me to do at present other than while away the time, waiting and waiting patiently for a few inches of parchment to roll into my mailbox, in anticipation of a life-changing decision. I spend my time reading to take my mind off it. I return to my first love ― the piano. It works for a while, however, that gnawing sense of fear and apprehension soon returns, and I rush to check the mailbox... for the fifth time that day. Alas! It is empty. I go back to my routine, making conscious attempts to breathe, blink, eat, drink. I talk, I laugh... the sound rings hollow in my ears. The day ends, night descends, there is nothing I can do but wait. Perhaps, tomorrow...

Warped

Date: 05.04.2007
Time: 10:15 p.m.

Hurling through the length of the tunnel
The warped reality of my mind
Nothing stops this freefall through time
As the old pains revisited grasp and grind.

These jumps from one sad day to another
Leave the grey cells worse for wear
Distorted images confound and befuddle
Windows shut and ready to tear.

Flashes of 'significant' memories, eh?
What right have you to compare?
You who embraces normalcy over truth
You who have inflicted many a nightmare...

Another stone's throw away from the shore
Those voices shut out by force stall the uproar
Every sound is like shattering glass
That grows stronger with every encore.

As consciousness separates and splinches
Caught between memories that conflict drew
Repair? Take a look at yourself first!
The mind out of synch and no longer true.

End: 10:35 p.m.
